Botox ®

What it is:

Botox ® is a purified protein derived from clostridium botulinum bacteria. It is injected underneath the skin into the muscle to minimise and smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. It relaxes facial muscles.

Who is it for :

Any one wishing to improve the exterior aspect of their skin can use Botox ®. Ethnic skin as well as white skin may benefit from the treatments. In addition, Botox ® can be use preventatively at a relatively early age to avoid starting the wrinkles before they begin.

Side effects:

There are no serious side effects. Used since 1989, it is gaining more and more popularity now. Only the injected areas are affected leaving all other facial muscles active.

Pain level:

Most people find relatively painless. Only a very fine needle is used. Techniques such as ice and the use of EMLA cream may be used if requested, though most rarely do. In some cases the use of a Dental Block may be requested.

Duration:

Allegan have claimed the effects last up to 3 months, however, we have found this to be slightly longer reaching up to 4-6 months. In addition, effects can last longer after several treatments.
